Fall Colors in Southern California

Okay, so we don't get those reds, oranges, and golds that those "East Coast Elite" folks do (I think Joe Six-Pack in Alaska gets to enjoy them, too -- not sure what Joe the Plumber gets in Ohio...) Anyway, I love all the dried flowers on the buckwheats at this time of year. They're our version of autumn foliage! (Nolina's not a bad backdrop, either)

iPhone Photo Fun Inspired by Kritteriffic

Miette was the cat's meow at her masquerade birthday party last weekend...

Lulu and the Magic Zucchini

The monsters of summer have arrived -- garganutan zucchini. The proud gardener is amazed at these leviathans of green that magically appear under the leaves, and (hooray) eats her homegrown wares with gusto.

The Girls' Garden

The littler munchkin watering a newly planted zucchini. Soon to come: the monster squash that has overtaken the entire garden bed! Maybe it was the extra sass that she puts into her gardening that makes it grow so bold.

Taco Truck at My House!

It was an honor to have my home included on the Venice Home + Garden Tour. Such a fun block-party atmosphere that day. I got to peek at homes and gardens represent the spectrum from high end so-slick design (new Marmol+Radziner house on Vienna) to artful labors of love by dedicated homeowners (the Bali house on, also Vienna).

But home-and-garden glories aside, the best part of the day was having la Oaxaquena parked in front of my house. Amazing Mexican food parked curbside all day long. What could possibly be more L.A. foodie-and-garden-lover fabulous than that? Heaven!

For the ultra-hip backyard habitat garden -- how slick are these bird houses from www.modernbirdhouses.com?
